John Platt and John Hill founded Platt & Hill in 1889 in Oldham, Lancashire. Without knowing it then, we were one of the earliest processors involved in recycling fibres for the fillings industry. It was by taking cotton waste from the numerous cotton factories in Oldham and processing it into products such as felt and wadding for the bedding, furniture and quilt industries that Platt & Hill first came into being.

Today we employ 250 people and offer a comprehensive range of filling products, from specially developed polyester fibres and polyurethane foams, to natural products such as duck-feather and latex foam.

We are licensees of the Du Pont range of Comfort Products including Dacron Fibrefill, Quallofil and Comforel for furniture and Dacron Thermolite Plus for the clothing industry.

Platt & Hill have a reputation throughout the industry for having consistently high quality standards and are ISO 9002 accredited.

Excerpt from the book ' Memories Of Oldham '

... a collection of photographs from a time not-so-long-ago. It is not a history book, rather a nostalgic look at life concentrating on that most eventful period in our recent past centred around the 1940s, 50s and 60s. Each picture is brought to life with well researched captions that will rekindle thoughts of how things were in the Oldham of our childhood, the Oldham of our parents, and perhaps even our grandparents. Inside this book you will find images of everyday life, including people at work, at play, on the move and in the town centre. Every facet of Oldham Nostalgia finds a place. Collectively these photographs capture the essence of what local life was like thirty, forty and even fifty years ago. Above all these images are intended to bring back memories of how things were in a time that seems like only yesterday.
